Earthworm Records Report 2014

The ESB are pleased to bring you a report summarising the successes of the National Earthworm Recording Scheme in 2014.

Over 2,400 earthworm records were submitted in total during 2014!

A big thank you goes out to the organisers of our 3 field meetings and all of the earthworm recorders that submitted records.

2014 - The Year In Numbers

2014 was a fantastic year for the ESB.

We welcomed lots of new members, Facebook followers and earthworm recorders to the ESB family.

We have put together a summary of 2014 in numbers below for you so that you can see all the great things that we were able to achieve with the help of our supporters:

Capstone Farm Country Park Earthworm Report

The Capstone Farm Country Park Earthworm Report has just been released by the Earthworm Society of Britain. It is available to download from our website via the link below and includes information regarding our findings during the sampling day of our Kent Field Meeting 2014. In total 8 sites across the park were sampled by a team of volunteer earthworm recorders. 11 different species of earthworm were recorded through soil pit sampling and searches of microhabitats ( such as dead wood, leaf litter, grass edges, wood chip and ditches).

Nick Baker - Wild Creatures Live Show in Dorking

Naturalist Nick Baker, presenter of Channel Five's Weird Creatures and Patron of our society brings his new show Weird Creatures Live to Dorking Hall, Surrey on Wednesday 24th October at 8pm.

In this exciting show he will be sharing his fascinating and often humorous adventures with his favourite weird creatures! From the high elevations of the Andes to observe the baggy frogs of Lake Titicaca, to the darkest, dingiest depths of Slovenias caves to meet the olm, possibly the source of the original dragon.

Compost Survey Results

Compost bin
Compost bins - great for earthworms!

In 2011 we asked you to write in or fill out our online questionnaire about the earthworms. We had a great response, over 225 people told us about their compost and 209 people found earthworms in their compost!
