Earthworm Day at Lullingstone Country Park
The Earthworm Society of Britain is holding a FREE event to at Lullingstone Country Park in Kent.
Join us to discover the secret underground world of the earthworm! The day will be a fun and informal introduction to earthworms plus an opportunity to tap into expert knowledge and learn which worm is which using an identification guide.
- Did you know there are 27 different species of earthworm in the UK?
- Would you know how to tell the difference between them?
- Do you know what each one does that makes it so unique?
Activities run from 11am-2.30pm and are suitable for all the family:
- 11-11:30 Earthworm Charming-Competition- Can you charm the most earthworms?
- 11-2.30pm Learn how to identify earthworms using a guide and talk to experts about earthworms and compost
- 11:30-12:30 Go on a Worm Safari- finds out which earthworms live at Lullingstone and which ones might live where you do.
- 11:2.30pm Get creative and make some squiggly wiggly worms of your own!
- 1:00-2.30pm Learn advanced worm ID (booking recommended)
Cost:
- Charming competition £1 for a plot- Pre book to avoid disappointment
- All other activities are FREE
- Pre booking recommended for charming plots and ID course.

Directions to Lullingstone Country park:
From the A225 Eynsford to Otford (Shoreham Road), Lullingstone Park is well signposted to the right, immediately beyond the entrance to Lullingstone Castle.
The nearest train station is Shoreham or Eynsford (2.5 miles).
A pay and display car park operates in Lullingstone Country Park throughout the year, seven days a week. Charges are Monday - Friday £1.20, weekends and Bank holidays £1.70
Earthworm ID course:
The course will cover an introduction to earthworms, the species we have in UK and their body structure. Experts will guide you through how to use microscopes to see the features of an earthworm so you can identify which species it is. You have the chance to test out a brand new key designed by our earthworm expert president and Natural History museum scientist Emma Sherlock. There’s also the opportunity at the EW event to:
• Learn more about soil ecology and earthworm habitats
• Learn how make an earthworm friendly garden
• Learn how you can help us with our national recording scheme
• Have a fun day out getting your hands dirty!
• Impress your friends, family and fellow gardeners with your new found knowledge!
Future identification training workshops
The ESB will be running many more free identification workshops, dates and locations to be confirmed soon, however, we would be delighted to hear from you should you wish us to hold an identification workshop at your local environmental centre, for your natural history group or as part of a bigger event.
